Business Architecture - Identifying Needed Business Capabilities
When you do architecture, how do you determine "Business Capabilities?"
The Business Architecture Center Of Excellence – BACOE, defines Business Architecture as the discipline and practice of explicitly representing an organization's desired state and as-is state through a set of independent nonredundant artifacts, defining how these artifacts relate with each other, and developing a set of prioritized and aligned Capabilities needed to meet the organizational Missions or Goals.
BACOE Business Architecture results in Business Capabilities needed to enable and achieve Business Goals. Unfortunately, there is much confusion regarding this point.
The BACOE Business Architecture Methodology develops the Business Capabilities that will enable the Business to achieve its desired state Goals and Objectives. R.E.A.L. Business Architecture results in Business Capabilities – they are NOT declared or the "beginning" of a Business Architecture activity.
